There is always something going on in Munich, and the events include a host of festivals happening throughout the year, the Oktoberfest, the Munich Film Festival, Rockavaria and many more. In 2016, two important jubilees will be celebrated in Munich, each with its own festival. The Bavarian Purity Law turns 500 and BMW celebrates 100 years since the founding of the company. Below is a chronological list of festivals of the year.
April
15 – May 1, Munich Frühlingsfest (Spring Festival)
The little Oktoberfest with beer tents and fun rides at the Theresienwiese.
Over 400 live acts and almost as many different music styles. Munich dances into May.

27-29 May, Rockavaria
The second instalment of the Olympiapark festival presents Iron Maiden, Iggy Pop and Nightwish as headliners.
28 – June 9, Munich Biennale
The Munich Biennale is worldwide the only festival that shows exclusively world premieres of new music theatre works.

23-July 2, Filmfest München
The Munich International Film Festival is the largest and most important German summer film festival
29 – July 24, Tollwood Summer Festival
Tollwood-time is music-time at the Olympiapark.
25 – July 31, Munich Opera Festival
The 140 years old Festival culminates with free Opera for All open air concerts.

Festival in downtown Munich to celebrate 500 years of the Bavarian Purity Law.
